The English Award
During the Eisteddfod, an English award is given to the best English creative writing. This yea some thirty students in years twelve and thirteen competed for the award, a wide range of creative pieces were submitted including short stories, descriptions and diary entries. The winner was Georgia Edwards from year thirteen with her piece on the terror attack of nine eleven. Second was Ceinwen Hughes from year thirteen and Liam Morgan from year twelve came in third place. The judge was impressed with the standard of the work, stating all the pieces were of high quality.

The Slug Club
There Is a writing club in Ysgol Brynrefail called ‘The Slug Club’ that’s planning on releasing a school magazine called ‘The Scribbler’ this winter. It will include an interview with the new deputy-head, Mr Arwyn Williams, and some fun stuff like a stereotype quiz and the result of opinion polls that have been going around registration groups in the school. The club would like to stress that these polls will not change any school rules, it’s just a way for students to get their opinions across.

The magazine will also feature a review of this year’s Battle of the Bands that was in the Galeri in Caernarfon, and an interview with local band member, Scarabs.

There will be a message board in the magazine, so send in a message for someone special. But make it nice, no inappropriate messages, or pretending to be someone else!

The first edition is free so take a look ...
